SAVING THE DAY? BUILDING THE FUTURE?
(MONEY? BROTHERHOOD?)
The European Union signed a 12 billion Euro agreement within the scope of the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. In the joint declaration they published; “we reiterate our strong commitment” based on resolutions 541 and 550 within the scope of Article 4 of the UN, and support was given for the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC) to be declared as the “sole legitimate government of Cyprus”.
These 5 countries approved the article in the UN, accepted the opposition to Turkey’s military and political presence on the island and decided to recognize Turkey as the so-called occupying power in Cyprus.
While the EU is looking for new markets in Central Asia in the new conjuncture, it is greatly disturbed by Turkey’s increasing geopolitical importance in Central Asia. The steps taken by the Turkish State through the Central Asian states and the Organization of Turkic States also make the EU uneasy.
This attitude of the Turkish States and the decision to open an embassy in the Greek Cypriot side have been an unexpected situation for Turkey. This situation shows that Turkey’s sensitivities regarding the Cyprus issue have not been sufficiently met by the Organization of Turkic States.
It should be noted that the steps taken by these states harm the basic values of the Organization of Turkic States such as brotherhood and kinship and the spirit of unity.
As is known, within the Organization of Turkic States, Turkey has taken many important steps, especially the common alphabet, common history education, the Union of Turkish Universities and the Orhun Process. Finally, our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan proposed that the March 21 Nevruz Holiday, which is currently an official holiday in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, be celebrated as a common commemoration and celebration day for the Turkic world, and the bill was submitted to the parliament.
Turkey should urgently convene the Organization of Turkic States and state that the agreement made by the above-mentioned states with the EU will harm relations between Turkey and the Turkic World, and that these steps are unacceptable in terms of our sovereign rights in both Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The states in question have the right to act independently in their foreign policies. However, they should act with the awareness that these steps they take should not harm the roof of the Organization of Turkic States, of which they are a member. Because the potential of these steps to harm the spirit of brotherhood and unity in the long term is quite high.
Unfortunately, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have displayed similar attitudes to those they do today regarding the occupation of Karabakh, the brotherly Azerbaijani land.
The Turkic World, especially the geography of Turkestan, seems to have forgotten its not-so-old history.
Turkestan is one of the regions where Russia and England fought for influence for Asian dominance in the second half of the 19th century. During this struggle, the Kazakh regions and independent Turkic states in Turkestan were occupied by Tsarist Russia. After the occupation, Russia established military administrative structures in the region and became an important power in the middle of Asia. The most important reason for the occupation of Turkestan by the Russians was the lack of unity and solidarity among the Turks in the region and the fact that the Turks in the region were far from the technology of the age.
Now, if we cannot see the games played by the European Union, Russia, the USA and China against the policy of dividing the Turks, as the unity among the Turkic world is getting stronger every day under the leadership of Turkey, and if we cannot act resolutely against the bribes given just like 2 centuries ago and if we do not emphasize our brotherhood and unity, Turkestan will continue to be exploited, not officially but de facto.
All Turkic states in the region should know that a strong, rich and fair future can only be achieved through the strengthening and unity of the Turkish brotherhood. You may be able to save the day with three or five billion euros, but you build a happy future with brotherhood.
